When growing herbs you don’t want them to flower because the plant becomes bitter.  Therefore, you want to pinch the buds off as they emerge. This is also cost effective as you will not require any bloom formula nutrients when growing herbs.

When growing with hydroponics, many different herbs can be grown. Types of herbs that grow well in hydroponics are chives, rosemary, thyme, parsley, basil and spearment. You can mix a variety of the different herbs in the same system because they have a wide pH range.  So, you can safely grow them all in a range from 6.0 to 7.0.

Herbs can be grown from seeds in hydroponics but transplanting established plants bought at a nursery will give immediate results.  Use very cold water to rinse the roots of media when transplanting into a hydroponics garden.

We are often asked which type of system is best for herbs. This often varies based on the light requirements of the herbs being grown. If using a sunny window sill, a Nutrient Film Technique or Deep water culture system works very well.
