Answers

We are interested in hydroponics as a hobby. What will get us started ?

JackA good way to start is to follow me ( Jack ) through this            site. Keep clicking on me to follow my tour! I have all            supplies and if you would like the Homegrown Hydroponics            catalog please send your mailing address.

I am doing a science project on hydroponics. What do I have to do?

JackI have a special page for science projects that will help you            out!

Do plants grow faster when using hydroponics?

JackYes, plants do grow slightly faster in Hydroponics. With the            optimum conditions and nutrition given to a plant in            Hydroponics they do extremely well.

I heard using hydroponics you could grow a mature plant in   less than a month . Is this true?

JackThe length of time to maturity depends on a few factors:

The type of plant - herbs & leaf veggies are picked while            young. Other plants are left to fruit & flower before harvest,            they will naturally take longer to mature.

The amount of light - if plants have a lot of light they will            require more nutrition and grow fast & large. If plants don't            have enough light they will stretch trying to find light, grow            slow, small & weak.

Hydroponics is an excellent enhancement to a proper lighting            set up!

I'm worried that hydroponic growing is the ultimate chemicalization of growing plants. Isn't this just chemicals?

JackAll info you might want can be found on these pages. Just            follow Jack.

How do I transplant plants from soil to a hydroponic medium?

JackCarefully wash the roots in cold water and place gentley            into leca or heydite. (Rockwool can be used from seed only.)            Transplant slightly lower than you would in soil.

Is it possible to have a small indoor hydroponic set up that would work in a recreational vehicle that is moving regularly????

JackI have pondered this very question before.
The problems you may encounter as far as we can see are the            reservoir and lighting. Sloshing water while moving - consider            self contained unit such as the 'Hydro Harvest' .

Mini Hydro Harvest Medium or large plants holds 4 plants            Deep water level Super Aeration Air pump, nutrients, pH kit,            Medium included

Also available as 2ft garden for 2 or 4 plants.

My wife has been preparing herself to sit for the MCQ exam (an exam for overseas trained doctors in Australia). One of the questions she came across was :
"The active ingredient of cannabis is delta-9-tetra-hydrocannabinol. Hydroponic cannabis

a) has lower concentration of the above ingredient
b) has higher concentration of the above ingredient
c) has the same concentration of the above ingredient "

I would appreciate if you could help us with the right answer.

JackI find it amusing that this question should appear on this             exam!
                   The correct answer is:
                    b) has higher concentration of the above ingredient

If hydroponics can increase the active ingredient in this                     substance, think what this growing method can do for                     tomatoes, peppers, cooking herbs, etc!
